RSS feeds

I have had a Google Reader account for a couple of years now. While I love the idea I find I don't open it enough to really keep up with all the blogs I subscribe to. However, when I do have a minute it is nice to go to one place for them. More often though I read a blog when a Twitter comment gets my attention and points me there.

I have also taught a few more advanced classes how to use RSS feeds to push search results to themselves. This has great application for long term projects, though not too useful for the majority of kids who are doing research the night before the project is due. :)

Would love to hear if anyone else is using RSS to push messages out from their libraries. I have not tried that application yet.

Summer Book Group

I am really looking forward to going to the Young Adult book club this afternoon.  As always I would have liked to get more read before this meeting, but I am excited to share about what I did read and hear all of the other ideas people have.  We are bringing along curriculum ideas for one of the books we read, so we can all create another resource for reading!  It is always nice to come away with something to share with other people as well.
The books we are discussing today are:
Maze Runner by James Dashner
The Otherside of the Island by Allegra Goodman
Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
The Everafter by Amy Huntley
Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink
House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo

Happy Reading Everyone!

Getting Started

Hi Everyone!
I am looking forward to learning and sharing our new technology experiences together this summer.  I am Sarah Olson, the high school library media specialist at Lake George.
Although I'm familiar with blogs, follow them, and have created them, I do not have an official library blog yet, and would like to begin doing that.  One of our school goals right now is better communication with the community, and I would like to experiment with different formats for that.  I am also looking at creating a library facebook page this summer.  I haven't started yet, but that is one of my summer goals!  I will let you all know how that goes as well.
I have so many ideas and plans for trying new things, and look forward to this outlet for processing it all, staying on track, and getting feedback from all of you!
Hope everyone is making time for FUN summer reading too!
