RSS feeds

I have had a Google Reader account for a couple of years now. While I love the idea I find I don't open it enough to really keep up with all the blogs I subscribe to. However, when I do have a minute it is nice to go to one place for them. More often though I read a blog when a Twitter comment gets my attention and points me there.

I have also taught a few more advanced classes how to use RSS feeds to push search results to themselves. This has great application for long term projects, though not too useful for the majority of kids who are doing research the night before the project is due. :)

Would love to hear if anyone else is using RSS to push messages out from their libraries. I have not tried that application yet.

  1. I have a few RSS feeds set up to send me messages when new articles are published on topics I know my administrators are interested in. It's an easy way to look like I'm on top of it! I have had a Google Reader account set up for quite some time as well, and mainly utilize it through a widget on my iGoogle page that scrolls headlines for new posts. I'll pop in when I see something that interests me (or when I get over 1000 unread items---then I go in and weed stuff out!)
I'm not using RSS feeds to push out messages from my library, but I like the idea. Something else to explore this year...
